Muslims Seek UN Blasphemy Ban?

Here is a link to a recent article highlighted by the Associated Press:
GENEVA – Islamic nations are mounting a campaign for an international treaty to protect religious symbolsand beliefs from mockery — essentially, a ban on blasphemy.
Documents obtained by The Associated Press show that Algeria and Pakistan have taken the lead in lobbying to bring the matter to a vote in the U.N. General Assembly.
Such a ban would face great resistance in Western nations that enshrine freedom of expression as afundamental right.
The countries that form the 56-member Organization of the Islamic Conference are currently lobbying a Geneva-based U.N. committee to accept its plan, a first step for it to eventually be put before the General Assembly.
If that occurs, Muslim countries and their allies in the developing world would stand a decent chance of mustering the simple majority needed in the General Assembly to adopt such a treaty.

Share the Quran Campaign
CAIR is asking imams and community leaders nationwide to use Friday sermons and other upcoming events to urge community support for the campaign to distribute free copies of the Quran to 100,000 local, state and national leaders by the end of the year.
The “Share the Quran” campaign, which is designed to enhance understanding of Islam by opinion leaders and policymakers nationwide, was launched yesterday at a news conference in Washington, D.C. It was prompted by President Obama’s recent address to the Muslim world in which he quoted from the holy text and by data showing that anti-Muslim prejudice decreases as understanding of Islam increases.

Sarkozy: “Arabic Is the Language of the Future”
French President Nicolas Sarkozy called Arabic the "language of the future, of science and of modernity." "We must invest in the Arabic language (because) to teach it symbolizes a moment of exchange, of openness and of tolerance, (and it) brings with it one of the oldest and most prestigious civilizations of the world. It is in France that we have the greatest number of persons of Arabic and Muslim origin. Islam is the second religion of France," Sarkozy reminded his listeners.
Most estimates place Islam as the number one religion of France. However, it is uncertain because the French constitution prohibits the gathering of such religious statistics.

Bibles: Your Assistance Needed
This is the time of year that we get the most requests for foreign language Bibles. New immigrants to the USA are often intrigued by the celebration of Christmas and want to learn more. This is a wonderful opportunity to get God's word into their hands, invite them to Bible studies, and introduce them to the Christ. This year, I am concerned that we will not have enough Bibles. We have been hit hard financially by the summer flood. Not only was Rev. Brumwell's house totaled, but donations dropped. We usually carry Bibles in about 16 different languages. Now we find ourselves with a very, very limited number of Bibles and several languages we normally carry are completely out. We are going to need around 50 more Bibles if we are going to meet what is needed. The Bibles we purchase are as inexpensive and basic as we can get. However, foreign language Bibles can cost anywhere between $10 - $120 each, depending on the language.
If you feel moved to assist us, you can send your contribution to the following address:
P.O.B.L.O.

We are a non-profit and a receipt for all donations will be sent to you.

Iraq: Two Christian Sisters Murdered
Mosul, Iraq -Six days ago, in an attack on a Christian family, two sisters were killed and their mother was wounded. One sister was killed at a bus stop and the other sister was killed when their house was stormed by Muslim extremists. The mother wasn't killed, but she was wounded. After the attacks, the attackers placed a bomb to detonate upon arrival of the police.
In this month alone, police have found seven bullet-ridden bodies of Christians. Because of these attacks, over 3,000 Christians have fled Mosul. Leaders, both political and religious, have said the attacks are probably an attempt to drive out all Christians from Iraq's third largest city.

Law & Gospel
On September 12, 2006 my step-father Kevin Lee Opheim died. More than anyone else I have ever met, Kevin understood what is meant by the Law. He understood that he was a sinner. He understood that there was no way he could measure up to the perfect obedience that God requires. He saw that he was a poor, miserable sinner needing God's forgiveness. Kevin felt the weight of his sinfulness every day of his life.
What Kevin had a hard time grasping was Grace. That God could love him, a poor wretched creature, enough to die on a cross. He knew it was true. He believed it, and he clung to it. He wanted nothing other than to be with his Saviour and King. On September 12th, the Lord held back no longer. He laid hold of Kevin with both hands and completely embraced him. Kevin now rests in the arms of God. Now he understands Grace, fully, completely...like no other man I know.

Afghan Girls Burned
Kandahar,Afghanistan --
Fifteen girls and teachers were on their way to school when it happened. Men on motorcycles used water bottles to douse the girls with acid. Some of the burns were superficial, others will last a lifetime.
The very next day, no one showed up for school.
In this part of the world, acid attacks are not uncommon. Sometimes it is a jealous suitor. Sometimes it is a relative who thinks the family honor has been smirched. Sometimes one feuding family will use it to attack another.
Most victims of acid attacks are girls and young women. When a girl is scarred from an attack, who will marry her? In a community where marriage and family are expected, necessary duties...what will happen to these girls? To whom will they turn? It is not uncommon for these victims to commit suicide.
When times are dark and all hope seems lost, who will show these girls 'the way'? Who is going to give them a Bible? Who is brave enough to share the Gospel in a place like that? By what means are these brave people able to work?
I think you know.
"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?" -- Romans 10:14-15

Update: Mohammad
It has been a while since you last heard about Mohammad. Mohammad was the pseudonym for a young man who came to faith and was baptized four days before returning to north Africa. The last thing I told you was that Mohammad had been thrown out of his house because he refused to fast for Ramadan. Some very serious news has come to us. As you know, Mohammad didn't have much time to be taught the Bible before he had to leave for home. Now, the news coming to us reports that he has fallen into drugs, and other vices. He is severely hurting both inside and out.
Please pray for Mohammad.

Update: Christians Killed in Turkey
"For your sake we are killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." - Psalm 44:22Ankara, Turkey -
Last year, international news reported that three Christians were murdered in Turkey. Since that time I have found an update. It turns out that, prior to their deaths, these Christian men were brutally tortured for three hours. The picture above is of one of the arrested perpetrators.
The complete details can be found by clicking...(here).
In times like this, many people become enraged. That's understandable, it was a horrific event. However, we must remember something. Christ died for all. That includes the men responsible for this atrocity. If these men come to faith, then they will be our brothers and sisters. If they do not, no one would wish that on another.
"And Jesus said, Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do." - Luke 23:34

Families in Crisis
Sitting down in a living room, an older Christian lady told me a story. She is Pakistani, a nurse, and had immigrated to the USA some ten years earlier. One day she told me she overheard a young Pakistani doctor on the phone with his parents back in Pakistan. In the ensuing conversation, it became obvious that he had married this young American girl in order to get his citizenship. After telling his parents that she was pregnant, he told them to get ready for him to send his son to them to raise. After the young doctor hung up the telephone, the nurse confronted him about what had just transpired on the phone.
His response? Everybody does it.
What is your response?
"...in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect"
(1 Peter 3:15-16)
Young Girls, Islam and You
What do you do when a young woman renounces God and the grace that was given to her in Jesus Christ?I was recently contacted by a woman who was distraught over the actions of a friend of her daughter. She was very sad, despaired and dismayed. Apparently this young woman had recently become a Muslim in order to please her new boyfriend.
"How could this happen?" she asked me.
"Quite easily," I replied.
This was not the first time I have been approached on the subject of young Anglo women becoming Muslim. In fact, I can say it will not be the last. This type of thing happens all the time. Seriously. I can think of almost a half-dozen cases, and all but one turned out bad.
Here is a likely scenario. A young Lutheran girl goes off to college. She has been taught from the Bible, she can find her way around scripture, and she doesn't take her relationship with God very seriously. Then, along the way, she meets a young Lebanese boy. He is the epitome of tall, dark and handsome. He is a Muslim, but in name only. He doesn't attend the Mosque. He doesn't fast on Ramadan, and he might even eat pork. She lets herself fall in love thinking that he may become Christian later on. She even asks him if it's OK to raise their children as Christian. He says, "Sure, after all, we all worship the same God anyway, don't we?" So, over the objections of her parents she marries, Mohammad. Things go well for a while, until she becomes pregnant. Then, while thinking of his children, he begins to attend the Mosque every Friday and starts to pray at home. Suddenly, the carefree guy she married has changed. What then happens to this young woman and her children? As a good friend of mine says, "This is a major problem facing the Lutheran church today".
How are we to respond? Can we respond? Are we ready to respond?
"I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths."
(2 Timothy 4:1-4)
Converts to Islam
I thought many people might be interested in visiting an article on Wikipedia.org.Scrolling through the list, you will find a number of names that will be familiar to you. Others, you might not have heard of before. All, I believe, are worth a quick glance.
If you happen to visit the discussion page, for this article, you will regularly find disagreement about who is Muslim and who is "no-longer" Muslim. This stems from the commonly held Muslim belief that no one converts from Islam to another religion.

Afghanistan: Missionary killed in Kabul
Gayle Williams, a Christian working with handicapped Afghans was killed at 8am today in Kabul. The militant group that claimed responsibility said it targeted Gayle because she was spreading her religion. The gunmen, who were on a motorbike, shot Gayle in the body and leg with a pistol.
The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (official name) is a conservative Islamic nation. Proselytizing is prohibited by law, and other Christian missionaries or charities have faced severe hostility. In 2001, eight international aid workers, including two Americans, were imprisoned and charged with preaching Christianity. Last year a group of 23 South Korean aid workers from a church group were taken hostage.

Noah? Never around when you need him.
No TV.No newspapers.
No radio to speak of.
No, no, no. That was life before the flood. Back then we were blissfully ignorant. Because of that, you could say the summer flood caught us by surprise.
The first I heard of the flood came in the form of a phone call. It was my mom. Usually, when she calls, she says things like, "Just checking to see if you're alive" or "Do you have a mother named Patricia? Oh, I have a son named Tyrone I haven't heard from in a while. What a coincidence!" This time, however, her call was different.
"Did you know you have water outside your house?"
The question kind of threw me aback. Water? I walked out the front door and looked down the street toward the river (we lived one block from the river). Much to my amazement, there was water. There were also construction crews busy piling up sand bags along the river's bank.
I remember thinking, hmmmmm. Did a water main break?
I assume it's pointless for me to tell you it wasn't a water main break. Because it wasn't. What it was, was a cataclysmic diluvium of biblical proportions. But i didn't know that. I called my mom back and asked her if she thought I might get water in the basement. I heard a long, drawn out, "Yeeeeaaaaahhh" and then a click.
Hmmm. I wonder if I should get our books out of the basement?
Books, what can I say about them. I love books. If I think a book might be useful to have at some point, then I keep it. If you would have seen it before the flood, you would think you were in a used book store. Boxes and boxes of books were piled two high. It had taken Gretchen and I hours and hours and hours to organize and mark these things. Ever try to lift a box filled to the brim with hardcover books? Those babies are heavy. What I needed was a dolly to move those books. And it just so happened that I didn't have one.
At this point I actually turned on the radio. I have a love/hate relationship with the radio. On one hand, I love music. On the other hand, I don't want to hear someone singing about sex. Too often the stuff that comes out of the radio is bad news. This time, when I turned the radio on, that ear-piercing screech of the Emergency Broadcast system came out. Their message? They are shutting off my electricity and gas. I just looked at the radio.
I have three children, two of them were less than three. The idea of
It was at this point that Gretchen asked me what was going on.

Mastermind of 1st Twin Towers Attack Claims He has Become a Christian
Ramzi Yousef is claiming he has become a Christian.Yousef, known for never leaving his cell and always praying every hour, told reporter Scott Pelley he has become a Christian.
Excerpt from wikipedia:
Biography:
His nationality is disputed, but Ramzi himself said he was born in Kuwait. Ramzi's father was a Pakistani engineer who worked for Kuwait Airways, is believed to be from the Baluchistan province of Pakistan, same as Yousef's uncle, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. This same uncle was one of the masterminds of the September 11th attack. You may recognize this photo of his uncle.
He speaks Arabic, Baluchi, Urdu, and English, graduating in 1989 with a degree in electrical engineering from Swansea, Wales--where he joined a chapter of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. Yousef, in his home in Jersey City, began assembling a 1,500-lb bomb. Yousef rented a Ryder van and on February 26, 1993, loaded it with explosives. The van was driven into the garage of the World Trade Center, where it exploded. He fled to Pakistan hours later. In the summer of 1993, he allegedly took up a contract to assassinate the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto. The attempt failed.
Yousef soon began planning his unsuccessful Bojinka plot. The Bojinka plan involved assassinating the pope during a visit to the Philippines by placing bombs inside toy cars. His co-conspiritor lost his nerve when it came time to act, and later turned Yousef in to the US governement for a $2,000,000 reward.
Yousef also boarded a Philippine Airlines Flight 434; he pretended to be an Italian man named Armaldo Forlani. Midway through the flight he disappeared into the toilet, took off his shoes to get the batteries and assembled his bomb which he tucked into the life vest under his seat, seat number 26K. The plane flew on to Cebu where Yousef got off. Haruki Ikegami, a 24-year-old businessman, took Yousef's old seat. Two hours later, the device exploded, killing Ikegami. The blast blew a hole in the floor and severed the cables that controlled the plane's flaps. The jet's steering was crippled but the captain made an emergency landing at Naha Airport on Okinawa (southern Japan), saving 272 passengers and 20 crew. After this "test" Yousef then increased the amount of explosive in his devices and began preparing at least a dozen bombs.
If this report is true, it validates what I have been telling people for a very long time. I believe that people like Osama bin Laden and Yousef may be closer to becoming Christians than you think.
"And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way."

A Homeless Shelter for Muslim Women

“Have you seen or heard of Muslim women being without a home? Well, if you haven’t, I have here in Baltimore City. Currently, there are three Muslim sisters living in one of the local Masajids (mosques) here in Baltimore City because they have no home, no money, and no family to turn to".
As Christians, have you been looking for people to help...people in need? There are people in every community that need to be shown not only kindness, but also to be introduced to the love of Christ.

Change in Pakistan Rape Law

ISLAMABAD: The Musharraf government on Wednesday made good its long-stated promise to amend the infamous Hudood Ordinances when the National Assembly adopted the Women's Protection Bill 2006 amid denouncements by the religious Opposition that it would turn Pakistan into a "free sex zone."
Nonetheless, the new law will have far-reaching implications as it criminalises rape under Pakistan's civil penal code, taking it away from the purview of the Hudood laws that require complainants to produce four male witnesses or else stand accused of adultery.

"These are young girls at their most productive ages - between nine and 40 years of age," Ancil Adrian-Paul, a spokeswoman for NGO Medica Mondiale, told the BBC. "These young girls are killing themselves from frustration and because they feel that there is no way out of them." She said the choice of self-immolation may be influenced by the fact that many of the women sought shelter in Iran, where the practise is more common.
Campaigners say illiteracy and an incompetent justice system contribute to women deciding to their own lives, because they can see no way out of their problems. Women and girls are also often given away to settle conflicts in the country. A recent Human Rights Watch report said many gains made by women since the fall of the Taleban have since been reversed.

Missionary Alert: Mohammad
At that time, we asked local churches to pray for Mohammad's safe arrival. Mohammad was told of these prayers. It appears that he has come to rely upon this knowledge, this knowledge that people are praying for him. Often he calls and asks that they be told, "Hi" from him.
Now, Mohammad has been thrown out of his house for refusing to fast during the month of Ramadan. Please pray for Mohammad, for Mohammad's uncle, and for his whole family.
The power of God is worthy to be praised.

Hijabbed
Hijab (Arabic: حجاب).
Hijab is the common name for the head covering worn by women. Hijab is different from the Burqa (which covers a woman from head to toe, or the Nikab, (the full facial veil where everything is covered but the eyes).
The term "Hijabbed" is a title of a short film. One of the most obvious symbols of Islam, that people see everyday, is the Hijab. This short film, well written and directed by Muslims, for non-Muslims, is a classic. I encourage you to take nine minutes and watch this short film. Before your very eyes, watch Hijab become chic.

New Documentary: Obsession
I just received an email from a friend warning me about a new documentary that is coming out this year about Islam and the West. The name of the documentary is "Obsession".Perhaps you have alread heard of it? Apparently, it was featured on CNN and other radio shows. If you know more about this film, please email me at TyroneBrumwell@Gmail.com.
Is the documentary accurate or is it simply a fear-monger. I don't know yet. I am interested in speaking to someone who can attend one of the screenings. Interestingly enough, apparently one of the screenings is at a church in Wisconsin.
You can reach Obsession's website by clicking here...

Muslim Youth Camps of America (MYCA) is a non-profit organization that is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Recently, they have been in the news because they are creating the first permanent Muslim youth camp in the United States. Although Muslim youth camps have been operating for years in the US, they have moved from location to location each year. This project, once completed, will be the first and only permanent camp of its kind.
Negotiations are completed for MYCA to lease 114 acres of federal land from the Army Corps of Engineers in North Liberty, Iowa. The camp will include a 2,400 square-foot lodge, a beach, cabins, places for tents and a system of trails.
The new MYCA camp will be right across Coralville Lake from another youth camp, Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca (LCMS).

September 24th starts the begining of Ramadan this year.
The word Ramadan is derived from the word ramd "to burn". The entire month is spent fasting (from dawn to dusk). The name comes from a time before the Islamic calendar, when the month of Ramadan fell in the summer. Fasting during this month is often thought to, figuratively, burn away all sins. Muslims believe that during Ramadan, the revelation of the Qur'an to the Prophet Muhammad began.
Muslims believe that fasting conditions believers to the "fear of Allah". This is why Allah says: “O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard against evil.” (Sûrah Al-Baqarah: 183). -- Wikipedia

Did you know?

The word mosque derives from the Arabic masjid, which means a place to prostrate oneself.
There are no formal requirements to build a mosque, and the Koran gives no details about a special ceremony for consecration. After the Prophet Muhammad’s death, his place of prayer in Medina (a spacious courtyard surrounded by clay walls) served as a model for the structure of mosques. Mosques must be oriented so the direction of prayer is facing Mecca. The minaret became a defining feature early in Islam’s history, and it was from this tower that the call to prayer was offered. Today many such calls are made over loudspeakers. As the world of Islam grew, much of the time simple structures were built. The distinct look of a domed mosque wasn’t developed until the 14th century, during the Ottoman Empire.
While Islamic law forbids the taking over of churches or temples to be transformed into mosques, this did happen—perhaps most famously with the Byzantine church Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.
